Our YouTube Channel
June 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Dear students,
We have created a YouTube Channel so that we can upload videos we record! This is specially dedicated to Avanzado 2 students, for they have been studying a C1 course for two years and can only get a B2 certificate, so we have thought it would be good to leave some evidence of the level they actually achieved. So, if you are an (ex) Avanzado 2 student, and you wish to record a monologue or a dialogue with a classmate, please get in touch with your teacher.
Whatever your level is, for next year, you will be able to get in touch with your teacher, so we can arrange a plan.
Have a lovely summer!

Talking about the Avanzado 2 Test this year — the first test in our History
June 17, 2009 · 10 Comments
Talk about any of its 4 parts: Listening comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Writing and Speaking.
What was each part like? Hard, easy, OK?
What was each part of each part like? Any favorites? Any to hate forever? Anything interesting?
What would you change or add or eliminate?
Test & Course
Did your actual courses at EOI (state-run language schools) have anything to do with the exercises in this Av2 test?
Could you apply anything you did in class, any skill you used in your course, to this test?
Could you apply anything you do in your life, any skill you use in your daily life, to this test?
Comparing Exams
Did you ever take the Ciclo Elemental test? Was this one similar?
Did you ever take the Ciclo Superior tests? Same as above.
Are you planning to take a C1 test in some pay place considering EOIs have been denied the right to teach and certify advanced levels?
For Explorers
Would you be able to design tests like that?

See you in September?
June 5, 2009 · 1 Comment
Hopefully, we won’t!
But in case you need to try again in September, we’re posting this song of the sixties, performed by The Happenings, to cheer you up! Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vprDWPBDIxQ
For Básico students who fail the Listening Test we have prepared some Support Material (material de apoyo) on how you can work on improving your ability to understand people in the summer, so you can also pass your Test in September!
People who passed can also use it!

Reading exercises
May 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment
For Ba1 students. We didn’t manage to get enough time in class to check two Reading Comprehension exercises, so I’m posting the answers, and you can post your questions.
p. 99. The Atacama desert…
1. In the Atacama desert it hardly ever rains.
2. The only people who live there are villagers.
3. The people in Chungungo have more water than before.
4. The Atacama is a very good place to go if you want to see stars.
p. 87. Food can be dangerous for your health!
1c, 2b, 3a, 4b. Which words did you learn?

For Speaking Tests (Oral Exams)
May 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment
For my Vantage (B2) students, who have been taking a C1 course this year! (and for whoever finds it useful, of course!)
Here you can review what we learned about the structure of a dialogue.
At the Talking People podcast you can review (for fluency & accurateness/correction) some sentences useful when we need to implement communicative strategies.
Then, here is a little recipe for practicing monologues at home.
About “defending a position doesn’t mean prevailing“.
Reminder: listen to English every single day (and when you have passed your exam, remember to listen to it at least 4 days a week. Otherwise, you’ll need to keep taking courses — that’s for real)! You should have developed the habit this year, supposing you didn’t have it. There is no way one can keep up or develop a good commando of any language if one doesn’t do this minimum.
Feel free to post more useful language, so we can record more episodes!

Feedback on our blogs and website!
May 20, 2009 · 1 Comment
Dear all,
Before the course is over, we wanted to start a thread to get some feedback from you about our brand-new EOI Getafe Internet resources.
Did you use any of our four blogs?
Did you use the EOI Getafe website?
Was that enjoyable, or useful?
What would you improve? Or, any suggestions or proposals?
Thanks for posting!

Creating Words in English!
May 6, 2009 · 6 Comments
In Avanzado 2, people are creating words at our Workshop of Word Formation resources in English. We are using 3 handouts dealing with affixation, conversion, compounding and various other resources.
Anybody who reads this is welcome to post the words they make up in English! (Remember to say what name you wish to use to be quoted as an author, and the level you are in.) You need to post: 1. the word(s) you made up, 2. it’s definition(s) and 3. some examples of how to use it in context.
It’ll be exciting, good for your English and then we’ll collect them all to create a webpage on Word Formation and Lexical Creativity at the EOI Getafe English Department Students’ Corner section!
Thanks for contributing, and enjoy this thread!
